Spend 2 weeks cycle touring Japan! Experience Japanese and western style accommodations, enjoy hot spas, relax, sample Japanese food, visit temples, shrines, gardens and more. Cycling is moderately paced, 20-60 km a day, plenty of time to take pictures and meet people. Tour begins in Tokyo, ends in Kyoto.
Cost: $2895 (double occupancy, $400 single supplement)-- includes all accommodations, all breakfasts and 6 dinners, ground transportation from Tokyo to Kyoto (one-way), guide services, and baggage transfer between hotels.

9/15 - 9/19 Tokyo
Meet at hotel in Tokyo to start the tour! Sunday, we ride along the Arakawa River through Tokyo. Picnic lunch at Tokyo Bay (weather permitting, about 40km). The next two days we explore urban Tokyo by bicycle--Ginza, Kabukiza Theater, Tsukuda-jima, Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple, Hama-Rikyu Garden, Sumiyoshi Garden, and more (20-30km each day). If you can rise by 4am, we'll ride to Tokyo's giant Tsukiji fish market and eat the freshest sashimi for breakfast! Wednesday, we head west to Mt. Fuji by express train to Kawaguchi-ko (elevation 1000m).

9/19 - 9/22 Mt. Fuji
Arrive Kawaguchi-ko (-ko means lake), transfer to hotel. We have threel days to circle several of the five lakes (Fuji-goko) at the base of Mt. Fuji, visit shops, museums, ropeway and enjoy the views. Optional Day: challenging 25km ride up the Subaru-line to Fuji's 5th station (elevation 2305m) with panoramic views. If you're fit, you can hike to the top of Fuji (3776m). Saturday, cycle south to Shin-Fuji city (about 60km) and speed by shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto.

9/22-27 Kyoto and Nara
Five full days to take in this ancient, yet modern city, best traversed by bicycle--ride along the Kamogawa river, through the Gion district, Higashiyama eastern hills and Kiyomizu temple overlooking the city, Heian Shrine and garden, Kinkakuji (Golden pavilion), Ryoanji rock garden, Nijo Castle, head west to Arashiyama hills with riverboats, temples, bamboo forests, and of course, everywhere, tourist shops. We'll join Kansai area Bike Friday owners on some rides. Day trip by bike/train to Nara, founded in 607 A.D., and visit Horyuji Temple and Todaiji's Great Buddha. Thursday 27th is the end of the tour. Depart from Kansai International Airport (Osaka), return to Tokyo, or stay and explore more of Japan!
