The Housing Search Where will you stay while searching for a place to call home? There are several alternatives less costly than paying for a hotel room. One option is a short-term "weekly mansion," a furnished apartment that includes linens, TV, and basic kitchenware and rents for as low as 3,500 yen ($32) per day. Weekly or monthly manshon are popular among Japanese businesspeople and single workers who are transferred to another city short-term. Posters advertising furnished units are common on the trains and subway, as well as online. There are also cheaper hotels that cater to foreigners.
