Hokkaido

Lake Onneto in Akan National Park

Hokkaido is the Alaska of Japan – the northern edge, with pristine volcanoes, caldera lakes and wildlife – as well as cities, agricultural plains and fishing villages. The roads are wide and great for cycling along the coast and over mountain passes. Staying at a hot springs inn in a national park is a delightful way to end a day of pedaling.
